4-day week....we're making it permanent!

Posted on 26 July 2022 by

Working four days a week? Our team loves it!

We are amongst 3000+ employees from 70 UK companies in the 4-day work week 6 month pilot. Businesses range from chippy’s to big financial firms and everything in between.

We work a 4-day hybrid work week; Monday or Friday is our day off or work from home day; Tuesday-Thursday we are all in the office.

Increased productivity? Check.

Keeping our mental health and personal lives in check? Yup.

Not to mention it helps us get through all those life admin tasks (you know… laundry, appointments, cleaning, paying bills). Or even pursue a hobby.

Has it impacted our productivity? Yes, but only in a positive way!

There are a lot of benefits to a four-day work week;

It reduces your commute time and the cost of travel. That's right—you're spending less money on the ever rising cost of fuel, car maintenance, and parking! And you're also reducing your carbon footprint.

Save our planet?
The introduction of a four-day working week with no loss of pay would dramatically reduce the UK’s carbon footprint and help the country meet its binding climate targets, according to a report. A study found if UK businesses moved to a four-day week by 2025 we would shrink the UK’s emissions by 127m tonnes!

The shorter working week has been a topic of interest and discussion amongst economists, businesses and some politicians in the past few years.

An environmental researcher, Laurie Mompelat said: “Shifting to a four-day working week with fair pay for all can help us change the way value is created in society by making more space for care, rest and relationships.”

Joe Ryle, a campaigner with the 4 Day Week Campaign, said: “We already know that the four-day week is good for workers’ mental health and wellbeing but this report proves that it can be a great move for the environment too.”

Finally, another benefit is that you have more time with family and friends or just time to yourself. You could also be saving on a day of paid child or pet care.
